Men with high risk for heart disease had lower blood pressure readings after drinking non-alcoholic red wine every day for four weeks, according to a new study in the American Heart Association journal Circulation Research. Presently, nearly half of all American high school studentssmoke, drink or use other drugs, according to the researchers at the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse. They say that their findings show that adolescence is the most important period of life for the start of substance abuse. A number of social factors are linked directly to the high risk of addictive substance use by American teens, according to the researchers. These include: acceptance of substance use by parents, schools or communities: widespread advertising of products such as alcohol and cigarettes; and media depictions of substance use as harmless, glamorous, fun and relaxing. Roundup Warning, Supreme Court Helps Drug Companies

The American agricultural biotechnology giant Monsanto, which developed Roundup, knew in 1976 that birth defects were found in laboratory animals. Dilation of the heart was the most common health defect in rabbits and mice. While Roundup has been associated with deformities in a host of laboratory animals, its impact on humans remains unclear. One laboratory study in France in 2005 found glyphosate caused death in human placental cells.
