Warriors Outduel Crusaders

On a cold, wet, blustery day in Eureka the Hoopa Valley Warriors needed to win to take over the top seed for the upcoming North Coast Section Division V playoffs, from their rivals in the Little Four, the St. Bernard’s Crusaders. Homecoming Heartache

One team was coming off of a hard loss while the other came into the game with a five game winning streak and revenge in their hearts. Hoopa beat the St. Bernards Crusaders in last year’s playoffs. The Crusaders got their revenge, 23-14. The Crusaders had this game circled from the beginning of the season, sending scouts to three of Hoopa’s games. This was an old fashioned high school slobber-knocker, with both teams coming out of the gate ready to hit and be hit. The Warriors drew first blood when Hoopa quarterback Sonny Ryles hit his favorite target, Talon Williams, for a beautiful lobbed 48-yard touchdown.
