Warriors Undefeated in League Play

Hoopa Valley High School Warriors defeated the St. Bernard’s Crusaders 67-44 on Friday night in Eureka. The Warriors’ enthusiasm and skill has made them undefeated in league play thus far.

“We told the guys at halftime that if they kept up the defensive intensity, we’ll be all right,” Hoopa Valley head coach Tony McClure told the Times-Standard. “We know we’re able to hit 25 in a quarter, but we just sometimes come out a little slow. It’s been our thing all year.

Senior guard Tule O’Rourke scored 10 of his game-high 26 points in the final stanza, setting the tone for the Warriors on both ends of the court down the stretch.

“He stepped it up,” McClure said of O’Rourke. “He keeps getting better and better. He does a great job complimenting Milton (Stewart) so we don’t have to rely on him every night.”

Other than O’Rourke, Hoopa had balanced scoring across the board, as Dakota Mosier (10), Stewart (9), Tahn Blake (8) and Logan Ferris (7) all chipped in points.

The Warriors—whose victory on Friday was their 17th straight in league—improved to 4-0 in the Little 4 and 16-4 on the season. They have a chance to clinch the league title outright in front of their home crowd next Friday night when the South Fork Cubs make the trip up to the valley.
