Man Wanted in Connection With Fatal Orleans Hit and Run
PRESS RELEASE, California Highway Patrol
Saturday at approximately 1:10 a.m., a 2006 Ford pickup was being driven on southbound SR-96 south of the Siskiyou and Humboldt County line, at a high rate of speed. Virgil Martin, age 25, of Orleans, was a pedestrian in the area. For unknown reasons, the Ford stuck Martin at a high rate of speed, causing fatal injuries to Martin. The driver of the Ford immediately fled the scene of the collision. During the investigation, a California Highway Patrol helicopter H14 out of Redding was utilized in the search for the Ford.
On Sunday afternoon, the H14 located the Ford several miles from the collision scene. Witness statements identified the driver of the Ford as Sean Forrest Hawk, age 27, of Orleans. Hawk is still at large and is being sought as a person of interest in this investigation. Witness statements indicate Hawk may be armed with a .22 caliber rifle and is considered armed and potentially dangerous. Any information on Hawk’s location may be reported to The Humboldt Area CHP or Humboldt County Sheriffs’ Office.
