Orleans Hit and Run Suspect in Custody
PRESS RELEASE, California Highway Patrol
On Feb. 23, 2013 at approximately 5:43 pm, Yreka California Highway Patrol dispatch received a report that Sean Forrest Hawk had been sighted on State Route 96 near the Ti Bar Creek Access Road.
A Yreka Area CHP officer from the Happy Camp Resident Post responded and encountered Hawk and a female companion at the location given. The CHP officer placed Hawk under arrest without incident. This arrest was based on a warrants obtained on charges from the fatal hit and run collision which occurred on Feb. 10, 2013 in Orleans.
Humboldt Area CHP personnel responded and transported Hawk to the Humboldt County Jail.
Hawk was wanted for the hit and run killing of 25-year-old Virgil Martin that occurred on Feb. 10, 2013 at approximately 1:10am.
Hawk was allegedly the driver of a 2006 Ford Pickup that was being driven southbound on State Route south of the Siskiyou/Humboldt Co. line, at a high rate of speed.
Virgil Martin, of Orleans, was a pedestrian in the area. For unknown reasons, the Ford struck Martin at a high rate of speed, causing fatal injuries to Martin. The driver of the Ford immediately fled the scene of the collision. During the investigation, CHP helicopter H14 out of Redding was utilized in the search for the Ford. On the afternoon of Feb. 10, H14 located the Ford several miles from the collision scene. Witness statements identified the driver of the Ford as Sean Forrest Hawk, 27, of Orleans.
