1930-2013. Rolling Hills Estates, CA- Gladys Joyce Kidgell Hacking age 82. Joyce died on January 2, 2013 of complications of abdominal surgery. She was born on October 19, 1930 in Logan, Utah to Gladys Calderwood and Fred Charles Kidgell. She had many fond childhood memories of her brothers Fred, Joseph and David Kidgell. She graduated East High School in Salt Lake City in 1947 and attended the University of Utah for a year. She met Douglas Ray Hacking in 1948 and they were married on July 1 1949 in Elko, Nevada. Together they had three sons, Douglas Jerry, Michael Ray and Perry Brian Hacking.
Joyce was a loving caring mother, wife, and an excellent bookkeeper and entrepreneur. The 1970’s were busy times for her work, watching her nest empty and keeping care of her first grandson. She divorced in 1980 and moved to California, settling in Willow Creek in 1981 with her mother. The 1980’s were amongst her happiest. She was an active in the local bible church.
Her nine years spent in Southern California were another special time for her spent surrounded by grandchildren and family. She struggled with increasing physical ailments yet never failed to impress doctors with her drive to watch her grand and great children grow up. Her last words to family were to send her love to her grand kids. She is survived by her sons Michael and Wife Tracy, Perry and his wife Arielle, step-son Kevin Rivenburgh, seven grand-children and six great grandchildren. A memorial was held on Saturday, January 26th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. You may contact Perry and Arielle Hacking at 310-544-7101.
