Buddy’s Top Driver Honored in Sacramento
TWO RIVERS TRIBUNE
The California Trucking Association held its annual Awards Banquet in Sacramento to honor their Driver’s of the Month for 2012. The purpose of the Driver of the Month awards is to recognize the men and women in the trucking industry who have displayed a high degree of excellence.
The program gives CTA member companies the opportunity to recognize their drivers that exhibit professionalism and outstanding safety practices on the road.
Buddy’s owners Rick and Julie Stewart nominated their Arcata location driver Mr. Shawn Hughes for consideration of the Northern California division award, in the category: driving less than 10 years.
After applications are reviewed and judged by an independent panel comprised of DMV, CHP and CA Dept. of Transportation personnel, drivers are selected. A few months after the application was submitted, the Stewarts’ were notified that Mr. Hughes was selected to receive the distinguished December Driver of the Month Award.
Driver nominations were received from very large companies like Wal-Mart, Safeway and Con-way; as well as smaller companies like Buddy’s.
Rick said “It was a real honor to have our driver selected from amongst such massive competition.” Shawn was presented his award by Joe Farrow, Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol.
Shawn was one of the original tow truck drivers hired when Buddy’s opened their Arcata location in 2008.
“Having a Class A license, Shawn has proven himself a great asset to Buddy’s. We’re very proud of his award and his conscientious work ethics,” Rick Stewart said.
Shawn with his wife Shellie joined Rick and Julie in a celebratory dinner and festive evening at the Marriott in Rancho Cordova.
The Stewart’s also received recognition for their promotion of driver professionalism and safety compliance practices on the road.
From amongst the Driver of the Month recipients, a Driver of the Year is selected. This year, the Northern California recipient was Oscar Montoya, a 46-year veteran driver from Wal-Mart Transportation. Oscar has driven over four million miles accident, injury and citation free.
Rick said “Mr. Montoya is an excellent example for us to aspire.”
