VOICES: Opinion by Hoopa Recreation Committee

Dear Two Rivers Tribune,

I am writing to inform the Community that the Hoopa Recreation Committee has elected a new Board of Directors to oversee the All-Indian Basketball Tournament and the funds raised for the youth program here in the Klamath Trinity area.

The following are the new Board of Directors:
Darcy A. Miller, President
Lola Crawford, Vice-President
Sunshine Jackson-Treasurer
Jacklin R. Billings-Secretary
Lana Herder, Sgt. At Arms

Our focus is to bring this committee back to its original intent, which is to raise funds to offset some of the financial burden the individual youth leagues require for our children to participate in sports. Also, to make sure our youth have safety equipment to participate in these activities.

The Hoopa Recreation Committee is asking the community to get involved and help support our youth in the Klamath-Trinity area. Come attend our committee meetings, join our neighbors and friends on the committee, our next meeting is January 10, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. in the Tribal Council Chambers.

We need help to raise funds for our youth. Now more than ever your continued support is needed to help keep the opportunities open for our youth to participate inĀ  Hoopa Youth Football & Cheer, Mad River Youth Soccer League, Klamath-Trinity Little League, American Legion Baseball and the Youth Basketball Program.

We need volunteers to referee basketball games, umpire baseball games, coach teams, run the concession stand at games, and much more. All of these areas listed need people like you, we can train you to do these things and we are asking you to come forward to let us know if you are interested. Only by working together can we make a difference in our community.

Sincerely,
Darcy A. Miller
