Public Comment Deadline Extended on Klamath Environmental Studies
Decision Based on Requests From the Public

More time is being provided to the public to review and comment on the environmental documents that examine the impacts of two Settlements on the Klamath River. The first is the Klamath Hydroelectric Settlement Agreement (KHSA), a deal to consider removal of four dams on the river. The second is the Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement (KBRA), a water deal that provides more security for farmers and divvies money up between signatories for various efforts that include providing water security to irrigators and restoration projects.
The original deadline for comments was Nov. 21, but Program Manager, Dennis Lynch issued a statement last Friday saying the public needs more time to review the documents. “The decision to remove or retain four Klamath River dams is of immense importance to the many Klamath Basin Communities,” he said.
According to Lynch the Department of Interior and the California Department of Fish and Game heard numerous comments from the public requests to extend the comment period on the lengthy Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
Members of the public now have until Dec. 30 to submit comments. To view the documents and to submit comments visit www.klamathrestoration.gov.
